An Evening in July at Ambleside Beach

A Photo Essay in Black and White

Ambleside Beach is located a skip and a hop from Vancouver on the north shore of West Vancouver. Take the Lions Gate Bridge and follow the signs towards Whistler and stay on Marine Drive until you hang a left on 14th Street. It is easy to find parking along the waterfront.

We have been to Ambleside numerous times and on this beautiful July evening, we enjoyed our sushi dinner as the sun was setting. I brought my Fujifilm X-Pro2 and one lens, the XF 35mm f/1.4 R, and was in the mood for black and white photography.

Hollyburn Sailing Club

In the early evening hours, a few sailors were wrapping up the day but there were still a few boats on the water. Stand-up paddleboarding is gaining in popularity and we saw quite a few of them setting out on English Bay.

Families were gathered near the clubhouse for evening drinks while the kids were playing in the water. The Ambleside Pier was crowded and many had chosen this as a good fishing spot.

Lions Gate Bridge

As you walk along Ambleside Beach the Lions Gate Bridge majestically comes into view and you also have great views of Stanley Park, Jericho Beach, Spanish Banks, and UBC in the Kitsilano and West Point Grey areas of Vancouver. On clear days you get views of the mountain on Vancouver Island as well.

Adjacent to the beach is Ambleside Park with walking trails, a dog beach, a pond, and grassed tree-covered areas. Behind the park, you will find sports fields and right by the beach are the Ambleside Skatepark, playground, and picnic areas. If shopping is on your list the Park Royal Mall is right behind Ambleside Park.

We highly recommend this spot if you stop by West Vancouver. I will leave you with a few more photos from a beautiful end of July summer evening at Ambleside.
